KUBAM Researchers at European Materials Research Society 2024 Spring Meeting

KUBAM Researchers at European Materials Research Society 2024 Spring Meeting

We are proud to announce the exceptional achievements Tuğser Yılmaz and Özden Güneş Yıldız at the prestigious European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) 2024 Spring Meeting.

Pioneering Synthesis for Catalytic Breakthroughs

Tuğser Yılmaz delivered an insightful oral presentation on the “Efficient Synthesis of Mo2AlB2: A Key Precursor in the Production of 2D MoB as a Promising Material for Catalytic Applications.” His work dives into the emerging field of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal borides (MBenes), which are gaining traction for their catalytic properties.

Yılmaz’s research focuses on the challenges and innovative solutions in synthesizing Mo2AlB2, a crucial precursor for 2D MoB. He highlighted the potential of Mo2AlB2 due to its structural similarities with MAX phases and its thermodynamic stability. By using a novel method involving gaseous HCl released from ammonium chloride decomposition, Yılmaz successfully synthesized Mo2AlB2 at low temperatures and within a shorter timeframe. This approach promises to advance the production of 2D MoB, making significant strides in catalytic applications.

Unveiling Borophene’s Photocatalytic Potential

Özden Güneş Yıldız presented a compelling poster titled “Exploring Borophene’s Photocatalytic Potential through Comprehensive Kinetics Study of Single Atom Decoration.” Borophene, known for its unique properties and hexagonal lattice structure, is poised to revolutionize photocatalysis.

Yıldız’s research involved synthesizing hydrogenated borophene and enhancing its photo-response through single metal atom decoration. Her comprehensive kinetic study optimized decoration techniques and provided deep insights into the chemical properties of the synthesized borophene. Using model dyes under UV light, she demonstrated borophene’s remarkable potential in wastewater treatment through dye degradation tests. Yıldız’s work opens new avenues for borophene’s application in photocatalysis, showcasing its promise in environmental remediation.
